Are you a qualified town planner with extensive experience of developing planning policies?
Are you ready for your next challenge, leading a team of around 20 planners and other specialists in an ambitious planning authority in a beautiful part of the country?
Do you have experience dealing with complex planning issues requiring political awareness, diplomacy, and persuasion?
Can you help shape our new Local Plan from the outset, responding to the climate emergency and nature recover, and meeting local needs as far as possible to make our Borough more sustainable, prosperous, and inclusive?
In this role you will:
- Provide positive leadership for a team responsible for preparing and monitoring planning policy documents, collecting and using Community Infrastructure Levy and developer contributions, and providing expert advice on urban design, heritage and other specialisms.
- Play a key role in shaping the way the planning function is delivered
- Take responsibility for the delivery of a high-quality service and work with Team Leaders to motivate and empower the PPIPS team and to manage performance.
- Work collaboratively across the Council and with other a wide range of external partners
- Present reports and recommendations to the Executive, Committees, and Full Council and act as the Council’s witness in relation to public examinations, public inquiries, or court proceedings.
This is a hybrid role.

Salary range
- £63,251 - £69,728 per year
