The Role
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Physical Activity and Healthy Lifestyles Manager to join our Health Improvement Service. The role is responsible for both the Physical Activity team and Healthy Lifestyles team leading on work associated with both of these workstreams, including commissioning services, managing programmes of work and team members directly.
In this role, you will; develop team service plans and be responsible for the development, delivery and monitoring of the North Somerset Physical Activity Strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the Physical Activity team
- Manage the Healthy Lifestyles team (working alongside the Healthy Lifestyles team leader)
- Commissioning and ongoing management of Physical Activity Services, Adult Weight Management Services and the Healthy Lifestyles case management system
- Designing service specifications, implementing and embedding agreed new ways of working and monitoring outcomes of delivery that are in line with national public health best practice, policy and guidance
- Manage multiple health improvement focussed projects related to physical activity and healthy lifestyles.
- Co-ordinate and chair the North Somerset Physical Activity Strategy steering group, Physical Activity Network events and Active Weston place-based group
- Managing service and project budgets
Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.
This position is currently based at our Town Hall offices in Weston.
Work Style

However, please note that during the induction period, it may be necessary to spend more time in the office to support your learning and development. We are flexible and open to discussions about your preferred working style, and if you wish to be in the office more frequently, this can be negotiated.
This role falls into the category of Mobile/Field Worker which means you can expect to work in the following way:
- 1-2 days in the office per week
- Works both from home and the office, depending on the task at hand.
- Training is provided to help balance work-life and manage time effectively, with an emphasis on communication for team touchpoints and planning in-office days for collaboration.
About You
We are looking for an individual who is passionate about physical activity and healthy lifestyles, and who possesses the following skills and experience:
Essential Criteria:
- Degree qualification relevant to physical activity/sport or health improvement
- Significant post qualification experience relevant to physical activity/sport or health improvement
- Experience in service development, developing service plans/strategies, commissioning and performance management of health improvement focussed services
- A comprehensive knowledge of relevant national strategies, NICE guidance, policy and up to date legislation
- Experience of managing multiple health improvement focussed projects
Desirable Criteria:
- Knowledge and understanding of budgets
- Practical experience in service delivery and in leading others to deliver the service

Salary range
