Outreach Officer
An experienced Outreach Officer is required to join the newly formed Croydon Heritage Service. The Officer will work with Croydon Archives and Museum of Croydon collections and staff and be responsible for developing a strong strategy for engagement and building equitable, long-term relationships with local organisations and groups. We aim to embed community participation in our practice and the Outreach Officer role will be crucial in widening access to collections and ensuring our communities are involved in all aspects of our work – in collections development, exhibition design, research, education delivery and public programming.
We are looking for a motivated heritage professional with experience working in an outreach role in a museum, archive or cultural heritage setting, preferably within a localised service. An interest in history and heritage is crucial, and a desire to learn more about the fascinating and diverse story of Croydon. The successful candidate will need exceptional people skills and be familiar with working with culturally diverse communities and people with different needs. The Officer will be expected to work collaboratively across the Council, making connections and partnerships with departments such as Croydon Libraries, Public Health, Culture, and Education, and be proactive about seeking opportunities for the Heritage Service to build its profile internally and externally to the organisation. Experience developing and/or delivering funded projects is essential and writing grant proposals desirable.
