Non-Executive Chair – Visit Kent and Invest Kent
Lead the Future of Kent & Medway’s Visitor Economy and Investment
Kent County Council and Medway Council are seeking a Non-Executive Chair to provide strategic leadership and be the external-facing figurehead for the newly formed 'Grow in Kent' function that integrates visitor economy (Visit Kent) and inward investment (Invest Kent) functions.
Kent & Medway is embarking on an exciting journey to position the region as a premier destination for visitors and investors. We are seeking a Non-Executive Chair to provide strategic leadership for a newly integrated team that brings together tourism and inward investment functions. This is a high-profile role for a visionary leader who can inspire confidence and champion Kent & Medway on the national and international stage.
As Non-Executive Chair, you will set the vision and deliver a bold strategy that strengthens Kent & Medway’s visitor economy and attracts inward investment. You will act as the region’s ambassador, representing Kent & Medway at major events and building strong relationships with public and private sector partners. Your focus will be on driving growth by securing investment opportunities and promoting Kent & Medway as a top destination for tourism and business. Providing high-level strategic support to an existing multidisciplinary team, including via a ‘Grow in Kent’ Oversight Board, you will ensure effective governance, inspire collaboration, and deliver measurable outcomes that make a real difference.
We are looking for someone with significant senior-level experience in economic development, tourism, or investment promotion. You will bring strong commercial acumen and have a proven track record of delivering results. Exceptional influencing, negotiation, and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to navigate complex stakeholder relationships and be resilient under pressure.
You will be acting as an independent leader focused on governance and board oversight and will operate outside the day-to-day business, acting as a strategic advisor and focusing on the effectiveness of the board.
This is a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on Kent & Medway’s economic future. You will work with leading stakeholders, shape policy, and help put the region firmly on the map. Flexible working arrangements are available, and the role involves regular travel across Kent and occasional national and international engagements. This Non‑Executive Chair role is offered as a public appointment on an independent basis. It is not a contract of employment, and therefore no salary, pension, or employee benefits apply. A non‑pensionable allowance is provided to reflect the expected contribution and time commitment.
Contract: 2-year fixed term independent contract, 4 days per month
Remuneration: £20,000 allowance
