JOB PURPOSE SUMMARY:


London Luton Airport is looking for a Net Zero Executive to play a critical role in our journey towards becoming champions in sustainable aviation. You will have the opportunity to support the Sustainability Team and drive our performance and management to the next level:


• Be part of the airport’s ambition to become Net Zero by 2040 and delivering on the sustainability commitments we’ve made
• Support large-scale projects to improve our Scope 1 & 2 carbon performance, playing an integral role to help meet our far-reaching strategic targets
• Support key business critical projects and initiatives, through excellent communication and organisational skills, to ensure their smooth running and timely delivery


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:


• Working with the Net Zero Senior Manager and Sustainable Aviation Manager, responsible for providing the support necessary to coordinate and deliver sustainability projects and initiatives
• Support the management of multiple projects simultaneously, assisting large-scale project development to improve our Scope 1 & 2 carbon performance including the transition to a low-carbon vehicle fleet and improving energy efficiency on-site
• Assist with key business critical planning and stakeholder targets, through project support from concept to completion, with a variety of complexities and technologies
• Support renewable projects at the airport, building on the initial enabling work to deliver renewable technology, which provide savings and benefits to the airport
• Support improvements to the site’s energy management by developing business cases, estimating budgets and savings to gain capex approval
• Excellent organisation skills, using excel to develop project spreadsheets, project database and updating project records, ensure the smooth running of the process
• Working with specialist consultants at the project initiation stage to support the growing demand for data and required information, relating to sustainability and the airport
• Assist with the development and maintenance of a robust capex budget system, controlling budgets and monitoring finances, providing accurate updates on progress, resources, finance, and costs
• To assist the Net Zero Senior Manager with delivering the required initiatives to meet the Net Zero roadmap, identifying which sustainability projects should feed into it to meet our 2040 target
• Excellent communication skills to approach and manage liaison with different stakeholders in our organization, to proactively keep projects on track and moving forward
• Collaborate with our procurement team, assisting with the tendering process, developing tender documents and cost schedules, assisting with evaluating supplier submissions
• Liaison with our legal team, providing intermediary communication with suppliers on legal queries and secure agreement of legal contracts for our projects


Secondary tasks:


• Supporting the wider Sustainability team to develop and implement processes to meet current and future sustainability targets
• Provide support for energy and environmental operation and planning, ensure accurate use of environmental data and records, identify opportunities to improve our processes
• Support the wider sustainability team with air quality monitoring and equipment and data analysis
• Oversee relevant sustainable research projects, carried out by universities and Government organisations, collate data and reports to assist their work and liaise with relevant internal staff, to ensure project success


About you

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in environmental or sustainability studies
• Minimum of 3 years of experience working in sustainability and/or environmental management
• Strong interest and understanding of decarbonisation, Net Zero, and wider environmental agenda
• Strategic thinking with ability to convey complex subject matter and influence stakeholders
• Thorough understanding and up-to-date knowledge of environmental legislation and government policy
• Proficient in MS programs, including Excel and Powerpoint
• Strong organisational and project management skills, ability to work under pressure and on multiple projects at once
• Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to adapt to different stakeholders
• Excellent verbal, numeracy and literacy skills
• Driven, self-motivated, willing to show initiative and make a change
