Multi-Skilled Roofer / Bricklayer - Housing Repairs & Property Services

We're looking for an experienced Multi-Skilled Roofer / Bricklayer to join the Housing Repairs & Property Services team at 19 Bennet Road. In this varied and rewarding role, you'll help maintain and improve our housing stock and corporate buildings, ensuring residents live in safe, secure and well-maintained homes.

You’ll be responsible for carrying out high-quality bricklaying, roofing and associated repairs across Council-owned and managed houses, flats, maisonettes and corporate buildings.

This role covers the local Reading area only and includes a company van, a monthly tool allowance, and opportunities for additional earnings through overtime and call-outs.

About the role:
Are you an experienced Bricklayer with strong roofing skills looking for a varied role where your practical expertise can make a real difference?

Including but not limited to, tiling, slate roofing, sheet roofing felt and single ply membranes, flashings and soakers, guttering, brick and blockwork, above and below ground, single and cavity skin, drainage repairs and clearance, paths slabs screeds and paving, excavating and clearance of debris, demolition and temporary support.

We are looking for a trade operative that is skilled, motivated and keen to work in a fast moving and constantly evolving Public Sector.

You’ll ideally hold a City & Guilds or NVQ in Bricklaying, with demonstrable experience across a range of bricklaying and roofing repairs, refurbishment and replacement work.

Duties will include:

• Able to conduct works, in a safe and effective manner using schedule of rates and working to the Councils Pay and Productivity scheme.
• Assisting other trades within the property maintenance service with Reactive day to day repairs, but also Voids and Planned Maintenance when required.
• Managing van stock and assess works to ensure the right materials and time to complete a first-time fix.
• Working closely with colleagues, managers and other departments to produce efficient polite and professional service for our customers.
• A good communicator with building knowledge as well as other basic skills and be able to demonstrate relevant experience within the construction industry.
• Working in accordance with current codes of safe working practice, current legislation and Health and Safety at Work Act including CDM regulations. Health and Safety responsibility at Level 1.
• Confidence working independently and as part of a team.
• Each job is managed though a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), Mostly tablet devices. This includes job management, van stock, requesting annual leave, Health and Safety and property information.

Most of your work will be carried out in occupied properties, so providing excellent customer service is an important part of the role. You’ll need to treat residents with courtesy and respect while taking care to protect their homes and belongings.
