Marketing Assistant
Chelmsford City Council has a fantastic entry-level opportunity for those interested in launching a career in marketing, working closely with our four leisure centres and our Community Sport & Wellbeing team to promote what they do. If you are looking to gain hands on experience in developing commercial marketing skills within a fast-paced and challenging work environment, this could be the role for you!
We are looking for an individual interested in health, wellbeing, fitness, and sport, combined with a love of marketing. The role involves supporting the delivery of major leisure campaigns, aimed at increasing revenue and raising awareness of our diverse offering. This includes activities such as swimming, ice skating, athletics, gym facilities, exercise classes, sports schools and lessons, as well as membership packages. We often work on multiple campaigns aimed at different audiences at once, meaning this role suits someone who is highly organised with attention to detail, capable of working on multiple projects running at the same time and confident working to tight deadlines. We have a data-driven approach which helps us measure our effectiveness, so the post holder will be responsible for maintaining spreadsheets and campaign schedules.
The successful applicant will be someone with a positive, proactive, and “can-do” attitude, with behaviours that reflect both the council and leisure centre values. Applicants will need to have excellent written and verbal communication skills to help support our marketing activity across a range of channels. This is used to help update website copy and online listings as well as research and develop ideas for engaging social media content. Experience producing accessible and engaging visuals using tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite is essential as the role involves assisting in the creation of eye-catching posters, digital screen ads, and social media assets. Working collaboratively with the team, the Marketing Assistant supports the creation and editing of video content captured on mobile and other devices. This content will be used across platforms including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn, so having hands-on experience in social media content creation is essential.
If you are an individual who is eager to learn new skills, make a meaningful impact and be part of a successful and collaborative centralised marketing team, we encourage you to apply.
This 12-month role is for 4 days a week (30 hours) between Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend and evening work (e.g. filming at events for social media content). The post holder will work between the Civic Centre and our four leisure centres (Riverside Leisure Centre, Chelmsford Sport & Athletics Centre, Dovedale Leisure Centre and South Woodham Ferrers Leisure Centre) as required. This means the ability to travel within and around the city is essential.
Interviews are currently scheduled for 23, 24 and 25 June.
Please note should sufficient applications be received prior to the closing date, we may close the role for applications early.
