We are looking for three Apprentices as part of the National Lottery Heritage Fund supported, Life on the Edge Project (LotE). LotE Apprentices will help create, restore and conserve important habitats on the South Devon coast, working towards securing a future for 30 rare and threatened invertebrates which call South Devon home. Species include Mediterranean oil beetle, Long-horned bee and the rarest bee in Britain, the Six-banded nomad bee. They will work towards a Level 2 Countryside Worker qualification, with our partner training provider.

Based with our project partners responsible for countryside management, the, apprentices will be hosted by local Ranger teams. Working at countryside sites, along the South Devon Coast, the LotE apprentices will have a fantastic insight into the world of nature conservation, whilst improving access and inspiring others about nature.

We urge applicants to apply who meet the scheme requirements and have a passion for the natural world and enthusiasm to learn more about how to conserve it. Unfortunately, we are only able to accept applications from individuals over the age of 18yrs old. The work will be varied and will range from practical estate work, surveying plants and insects, and engaging with the public at events. The Apprentices will also benefit from the wider Life on the Edge project with opportunities to be involved in broader project activity with other project delivery partners

All interested candidates are encouraged to join an online webinar session to learn more about the Life on the Edge project, this apprenticeship scheme and to ask any questions in a short Q&A session. The webinar will be held on Zoom 1830 - 1930 on Monday 15 December 2025 – please email lote@southdevon-nl.org.uk for the link.

Closing date: Sunday 4 January 2026

We are only able to accept applications from individuals over the age of 18 years old.

Applicants with a qualification in this field will not be eligible for the scheme.

Assessments will be held via an Apprentice Selection Day which will be on Friday 16 January 2026 at Coleton Fishacre, TQ6 0EQ.
