Salary: £29,253 - £32,736 per annum

Contract Type: 12 Months Fixed Term Contract

About the department

The Selective Licensing Team sits in the Private Housing Service within Community Protection & Enforcement Services at Thurrock Council. Our goal is to ensure that private rented housing across the borough is safe, well-managed, and compliant with legal standards. We work closely with landlords, tenants, and partner agencies to improve housing conditions and protect residents. As a Licensing Breach Officer, you will play a key role in delivering our licensing schemes and supporting our commitment to raising housing standards.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor compliance with property licence conditions through audits, inspections, and document reviews.
  • Investigate breaches such as overcrowding, substandard property conditions, and poor management practices.
  • Issue formal notices and assist in preparing enforcement actions.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to performance monitoring.
  • Support engagement initiatives including landlord forums and awareness sessions.

What We’re Looking For

  • Knowledge of property licensing and housing enforcement.
  • Experience in regulatory compliance, inspections, or case management.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess evidence and follow due process.
  • Educated to A-level standard or equivalent.
  • Excellent interpersonal and IT skills.
