    A great opportunity has arisen for someone to join our team, delivering a first-class customer focussed service in a busy and demanding public library environment.

    This role provides an essential service delivering a range of library services to the public including face-to-face customer enquiries, joining new members, helping people to find information and use the internet, delivering events and activities, and delivering other county council services such as processing bus passes and blue badges.

    The role requires weekend and evening working and there is the requirement to travel to other libraries to provide cover.

    Library Assistant Week 1:

    Monday 9-5 7 hrs

    Tuesday 12.30-8 (1/2 hr unpaid break) 7 hrs

    Thursday 8.50-5 7 hrs 10 mins

    Friday 8.50-5 7 hrs 10 mins

    Saturday 9.20-4 6 hrs 10 mins

    34 hrs 30 mins

    Week 2:

    Monday 9-5 7 hrs

    Tuesday 12.20-8 (1/2hr unpaid break) 7hrs 10 mins

    Thursday 8.50-5 7hrs 10 mins

    Friday 8.50-5 7 hrs 10 mins

    28 hrs 30 mins

    Average 31.5 hrs per week

    Main Responsibilities

    To give you an idea, some of the key things you’ll do will include:

    • Helping customers find the information and resources they need
    • Providing essential digital support to customers using computers within the libraries or accessing e-services
    • Supporting projects and activities for all ages
    • Promoting library stock, services and events through social media and outreach events
    • Sales and cash handling
    • Opening and locking up the Library
    • The role involves a degree of manual handling
    The Ideal Candidate

    What you’ll bring

    • Good time management skills
    • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
    • A passion for working with and helping customers, demonstrating recent experience of serving customers of all ages from across the whole community, face to face.
    • High level of self-motivation and ability to work on own initiative
    • Personal drive, confidence, and enthusiasm
    • Flexibility and adaptability
    • An interest in working with children, delivering activities such as rhyme and story times.
