About the role
We are looking for an Interim Public Health Consultant, to provide high-level senior public health leadership in a range of population level activities, across the council and wider partnerships.
As we transition to a new structure, an interim/locum post is required for six months, to cover the children and young people portfolio, and likely also lead some transition into a wider portfolio including sexual health and health protection.

What will you be doing?
- Commissioning public health services across the public health statutory and non-statutory services. This may include: the Healthy Child Programme; public health services or initiatives that are delivered through early years or school settings; sexual health services; drug and alcohol services; NHS health checks; behaviour change services
- Senior and strategic leadership within your portfolio – overall responsibility for work areas related to specific strategic priorities, outcome measures, and health inequality measures
- Working with partners within the council and across the health and care system to enhance prevention and early intervention opportunities
- Working with a range of partners to effectively support the delivery of health services and interventions
- Acting as key strategic partner for a directorate within the council
- Contributing to delivery of the Public Health Strategic Plan and Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Health and Wellbeing Strategy
- Demonstrating a commitment to, and understanding of, our equality, diversity and inclusion goals
- Contributing to our organisational commitment to becoming a Net Zero organisation by 2030
About you
You will need to have completed higher specialty training in public health or equivalent and are be the GMC/GDC Specialist Register or UK Public Health (Specialist) Register.
You will be a strong leader, able to effectively manage teams and systems within the organisation and across organisational boundaries.
You are a strategic thinker, analytical, and able to influence and drive change.
You'll need to be ambitious and innovative, working collaboratively to make a difference to the population of Cambridgeshire. You should have a demonstrable track record of delivery in complex environments.
Salary range
- £105,385 - £121,271 per year
