Working Hours: 1 day per week (approximately 5 hours / school day), term time only - across the academic year (38 weeks)

Are you passionate about the oboe and ready for a unique and rewarding challenge?

Leicestershire Music is offering a rare opportunity for an oboe specialist to help grow something new and exciting across our schools. This role starts at around 5 hours per week, but it’s much more than a small teaching commitment — it’s a chance to build your own provision from the ground up, with genuine scope to increase hours as interest develops.

You’ll work in schools delivering engaging lessons, leading lively demonstrations, and inspiring pupils to take up the oboe. With the support of an experienced and welcoming music service, you’ll have the freedom to shape the role, grow your pupil base, and make a lasting impact.

With no current oboe pupils across the service, this is a unique opportunity to establish and develop provision from scratch — ideal for someone who enjoys taking initiative, spotting opportunities, and building something meaningful.

We’re looking for a proactive, self-motivated musician who is excited by the opportunity to grow a programme rather than step into an established timetable.

The role:

  • Initial contract: 1 day per week (approximately 5 hours / school day), across the academic year (38 weeks)
  • Salary: paid in 12 equal monthly instalments
  • Payment reflects the full working day (not just teaching/contact time), including planning, travel, and development work
  • Travel between schools is included within working time, plus 55p per mile allowance
  • Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme and full range of Leicestershire County Council employee benefits

As demand grows, there is clear and realistic potential for hours to increase and for you to expand your impact.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who values flexibility, variety, and the chance to build something from the ground up — and who understands that early-stage roles offer long-term opportunity and professional growth.

An enhanced with barred list DBS check is required for this post.
