About the role

At Crawley Borough Council, we are dedicated to creating a vibrant, inclusive, and forward-thinking community. Our Digital & Transformation division is at the heart of our mission to innovate and enhance the services we provide to our residents. We are seeking a passionate and experienced Information Security Officer to join our team and lead our efforts in safeguarding our digital assets and ensuring compliance with data protection laws.

This is a part-time role, working 18.5 hours a week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the identification, assessment, and management of cyber security risks across the organisation
  • Develop and implement security policies, procedures, and controls
  • Provide expert advice and due diligence in the procurement of IT systems and services
  • Analyse systems and applications for security vulnerabilities and recommend solutions
  • Collaborate with various teams to safeguard digital assets and support secure procurement
  • Monitor emerging technologies and evolving security threats
  • Promote a culture of information security awareness throughout the organisation
  • Lead on incident management, including response planning and business continuity

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Educated to degree level in ICT or equivalent
  • A qualification or accreditation in Information Security is desirable
  • Experience in application selection processes and analysis of technology platforms for information security compliance
  • Experience in training staff in cyber/information security matters
  • Strong understanding of cyber security and information security standards and strategies

Skills and Abilities:

  • Effective analytical skills to establish if products fit our Information Security Standards
  • Good data structure and management skills
  • Strong communication skills at all levels
  • Ability to work collaboratively and develop effective customer relationships
