About the role

At Crawley Borough Council, we are dedicated to creating a vibrant, inclusive, and forward-thinking community. Our Digital & Transformation division is at the heart of our mission to innovate and enhance the services we provide to our residents. We are seeking a passionate and experienced Information Security Officer to join our team and lead our efforts in safeguarding our digital assets and ensuring compliance with data protection laws.

This is a part-time role, working 18.5 hours a week.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the identification, assessment, and management of cyber security risks across the organisation
Develop and implement security policies, procedures, and controls
Provide expert advice and due diligence in the procurement of IT systems and services
Analyse systems and applications for security vulnerabilities and recommend solutions
Collaborate with various teams to safeguard digital assets and support secure procurement
Monitor emerging technologies and evolving security threats
Promote a culture of information security awareness throughout the organisation
Lead on incident management, including response planning and business continuity

Qualifications and Experience:

Educated to degree level in ICT or equivalent
A qualification or accreditation in Information Security is desirable
Experience in application selection processes and analysis of technology platforms for information security compliance
Experience in training staff in cyber/information security matters
Strong understanding of cyber security and information security standards and strategies

Skills and Abilities:

Effective analytical skills to establish if products fit our Information Security Standards
Good data structure and management skills
Strong communication skills at all levels
Ability to work collaboratively and develop effective customer relationships
