The role.
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced HR professional who enjoys building relationships, providing practical advice and using data to drive improvement! If this is you, we'd love to hear from you.
As a HR Adviser, you'll be the first point of contact for managers, providing timely and pragmatic advice on a range of people matters including recruitment, attendance management, policy queries and changes to working arrangements. Alongside delivering a responsive HR advice service, you'll play a key role in maintaining workforce data, producing management information and identifying trends that support effective decision-making.
You'll work closely with managers across the organisation to ensure accurate establishment records, monitor workforce metrics, analyse HR data and support projects that contribute to service improvement and organisational priorities.

Key responsibilities:
- Act as a trusted first‑line HR adviser, providing clear, confident guidance on absence management, recruitment processes and the application of HR policies, ensuring managers feel supported and well‑informed.
- Produce and interpret organisational reports, transforming complex data into meaningful insights and presenting it in a clear, accessible format to support evidence‑based decision‑making.
- Collaborate closely with Managers and Finance to maintain an accurate and up‑to‑date organisational establishment, ensuring workforce information is reliable and aligned with operational needs.
- Contribute to the delivery of HR improvement projects, playing an active role in shaping a more efficient, modern and people‑centred HR service.
Work style.
At North Somerset Council, we offer a hybrid working environment based on four distinct work styles. Depending on the role and personal circumstances, you will fall into one of these categories. However, please note that during the induction period, it may be necessary to spend more time in the office to support your learning and development. We are flexible and open to discussions about your preferred working style, and if you wish to be in the office more frequently, this can be negotiated.
This role falls into the category of Mobile/Field Worker which means you can expect to work in the following way:
- 0-1 day in the office.
- Comes into the office for meetings or focused work. Virtual connections with the team are essential, with portable technology supporting work on the go.
About you.
We're looking for someone with HR experience, excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to interpret and present data clearly, while possessing the following skills and experience.
Essential criteria:
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey information clearly, confidently and with professionalism.
- Strong proficiency across the full Microsoft Office suite, including the ability to produce well‑structured documents, reports and presentations.
Desirable criteria:
- CIPD Level 3 qualification or equivalent HR experience, demonstrating a solid foundation in people practice and professional standards.
- Experience in analysing and presenting data, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, accessible insights for a range of audiences.

Salary range
