Be part of a values‑led HR team that makes a real difference.

We are seeking an experienced and proactive HR Adviser to join our friendly and professional HR Team on a maternity cover basis. This is a great opportunity to work in a council that puts its values at the heart of how managers lead, support and develop their teams. We are proud of our kind, collaborative and inclusive culture, and our HR team plays a central role in supporting managers to live these values every day, through how they lead, manage performance, resolve issues and support their teams.

The role

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys the challenge and variety of a busy employee relations caseload, while also valuing the breadth that comes with being an HR generalist. You will work closely with managers to provide practical, high-quality advice and support across a wide range of employee relations matters, helping issues to be addressed early, constructively and in line with best practice. The role offers a varied mix of employee relations, HR generalist and project improvement work. You will coach and support managers to build confidence across the full range of people management activities.

This is an exciting time to be joining local government in Hampshire as we commence our journey of joining up with other authorities as part of local government reorganisation. An understanding and experience of change management would be an advantage.

About you

We are looking for someone who brings both technical HR expertise and a values-based approach. You will be confident, approachable and comfortable working with sensitive issues, while maintaining‑ professionalism and good judgement. You will bring:

  • CIPD qualification (or equivalent experience)
  • Strong employee relations experience and working knowledge of employment law
  • Clear, adaptable communication skills and high-quality written ability
  • A collaborative approach and genuine enthusiasm for continuous improvement

Why work with us?

We offer a supportive, flexible working environment and a strong focus on learning and wellbeing. Benefits include a competitive salary, generous leave, hybrid working, free parking in Andover, discounted gym membership and access to the Local Government Pension Scheme. We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and welcome applications from a wide range of backgrounds. Part-‑time and hybrid working will be considered for this role.
