Are you an organised and motivated housing professional who wants to make a real difference to households experiencing homelessness? Blaby District Council is looking for a Housing Accommodation & Enabling Officer to join our Housing Services team and support the effective delivery of temporary accommodation and wider housing priorities.
The Role
As Housing Accommodation & Enabling Officer, you will support the day-to-day delivery of temporary accommodation services, helping to ensure that accommodation is allocated, managed and monitored effectively and in line with the Council’s statutory duties. You will work directly with households placed in temporary accommodation, private sector landlords, accommodation providers and partner agencies to help ensure placements are suitable, lawful, safe and well managed.
This is a varied and practical role where you will organise placements, coordinate moves into and out of accommodation, carry out inventory checks and property handovers, liaise with landlords and internal teams, and provide clear advice to households about licence conditions, responsibilities and expected standards of behaviour. You will also support monitoring and analysis relating to affordable housing delivery and contribute to service planning, reporting and decision-making.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone with experience of working in a housing, homelessness or customer-facing service, together with experience of supporting vulnerable people and dealing sensitively with complex situations. You will need strong administrative skills, the ability to maintain accurate records, and confidence using IT systems, including housing management systems.
You should have knowledge of homelessness legislation and guidance relating to temporary accommodation, an understanding of the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, and awareness of landlord and tenant responsibilities, welfare benefits, safeguarding, domestic abuse and data protection requirements. Strong communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to manage competing priorities, work collaboratively with landlords and partners, and use your own initiative.
GCSEs in Maths and English at grades 4-9/A*-C, or equivalent, and a full driving licence are required.
This role will require a Basic Disclosure and Barring Service check (known as a DBS check). All offers of employment will be made conditional upon receipt of the satisfactory DBS check.
