Job Introduction

About the role

Lincolnshire County Council Highways is seeking an enthusiastic Highways Development Programme Apprentice – Level 2 (known internally as Highways Development Programme Trainee – Level 2).

The successful candidate will be required to work across and assist a variety of teams within the Highways service as part of a development programme. The Development Programme will be tailored to suit both the needs of the Highway Service and the aspirations / interests of the successful candidates.

Candidates may join the development programme at levels 1, 2 or 3 depending on their educational background. The successful candidate will attend college one day a week to gain their qualifications in Civil Engineering.


About the team

You will work alongside other existing Apprentices, and a Project Officer, and be mentored throughout the programme by the Highways Service Development Lead, within the Highways Client & Contract Team.


About you

You will be a team player and a confident and able communicator, with an eye for detail. Good interpersonal and communications skills will be important attributes for the successful candidate.


While experience of working in the Construction sector will be an advantage, the most important attributes for the successful candidate will be the right skills and attitude to contribute effectively to a fast-moving, high-profile area of work, and to support your team and the wider Council to deliver a high-quality service to the public.

You will ideally be qualified to Civil Engineering Technician (Level 3), or equivalent, or meet entry requirements for L4 Civil Engineering Senior Technician (HNC) & Civil Engineering Degree, L6 or another suitable L4/L5/L6 educational course (by agreement). This is a minimum requirement of 5 GCSEs at grades 4–9 - including Maths, English, and Science, and 3 A Levels.

You will be given a nominated contractual work base and you will be required to commute to this work base when necessary. Working arrangements regarding hybrid working will be discussed as part of the appointment process.
