
Highways Apprentice
Location: Lynton House
Full time, fixed term until April 2028 (3.5 years)

Our Civil Engineering Apprentice role offers you the chance to start your career in highways and be involved in shaping the way people travel around our network and ensuring that our roads, pavements, structures and road network are safe for our residents and commuters. Being part of a front-line services impacts on your local community with the ability to rotate within the directorate between our Road Safety & Traffic Engineering team, Highways Engineering team and Street Works team you will get a fantastic opportunity to experience the full depth of highways and transportation.
For this apprenticeship position you will begin in the Street Works team.

As part of the Civil Engineering Apprenticeship you will be supported to undertake and achieve a Level 3 nationally recognised qualification. The apprenticeship will be fully funded by the council, and you will be given time off for study as required for the duration of the apprenticeship which is typically three and a half years depending on any previous qualifications achieved.
Once you complete your apprenticeship there is the potential to move through the career progression levels within the team and continue your career with us.
You will also need to demonstrate an awareness for detail, familiar with Microsoft IT packages and be computer savvy with an ability to break problems down into simple parts and a willingness to learn from the wealth of experience the team has. Above all, you will show a passion for the work we are doing and the drive to achieve great results with a willingness to learn.
