About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated, resilient and compassionate HLTA with a specialism in Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs to join our thriving and inclusive middle school. This role focuses on fostering positive relationships, enabling our young people to achieve their full potential.
As a large and successful middle school, we are committed to nurturing success to ensure that every pupil receives the support they need to achieve. The role will require a successful candidate to facilitate provision for pupils requiring SEMH support and intervention, including those with EHCPs, helping them to access learning, develop positive relationships and succeed both academically and personally. Our well‑established Inclusion Team—including our Heads of Year, Welfare Officer and Behaviour Support Assistant—works collaboratively to ensure every pupil receives consistent, compassionate and high‑quality support. The successful candidate will become a valued member of this team, contributing to a culture of inclusion, early intervention and strong pastoral care.
The successful candidate will:
Curriculum Delivery and Planning
- Support pupils in our curriculum Link provision, enabling them to engage positively with learning and make sustained progress.
- Design and implement a creative and engaging curriculum tailored to the unique needs of SEMH pupils.
- Plan, deliver and evaluate identified interventions designed to support pupils with EHCPs and those with social, emotional and mental health needs.
- Adapt lesson plans to support individual learning styles and capabilities.
- Lead the delivery of specific SEMH programmes and interventions to meet the needs of identified pupil.
Pupil support and relationships
- Build positive relationships with pupils, colleagues and parents, emphasising relational practice to support their social and emotional development.
- Provide a nurturing and inclusive environment that promotes well-being and positive behaviour.
- Help pupils develop strategies for emotional regulation and social interaction.
- Foster a supportive, calm and productive environment, established through trauma-informed practice and therapeutic intervention.
Collaboration and Leadership
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and external agencies to provide holistic support for pupils.
- Lead by example to inspire and motivate colleagues and other stakeholders in supporting SEMH education.
- Engage with the wider inclusion team to develop and grow the alternative provision effectively.
Assessment and Reporting
- Monitor, evaluate and record pupil progress, using assessments to inform future planning.
- Communicate effectively with parents, carers, and other professionals regarding pupil progress and wellbeing.
- To take an active role in assessing and analysing progress data as well as participating in pupil progress meetings and contributing to learning plans using the Assess – Plan – Do – Review cycle.
