Higher Level Teaching Assistant

Chapelhill Primary School

Grade : Band G (SCP 19-24)

Contract Term : 17 hours per week / 39 weeks per year

Contract Type : Fixed Term Initially for 1 year

Start Date : 1st September 2026

Are you a passionate and experienced education professional looking to make a real difference in the lives of children? Would you thrive in a nurturing and inclusive environment working as part of a dedicated and forward-thinking team? We are excited to invite applications for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our friendly, dedicated, and inclusive team at Chapelhill Primary School.

This is a fixed-term position initially, due to current budget constraints. We’re looking for someone who shares our commitment to nurturing every child’s potential – academically, socially, and emotionally – and who wants to be part of a forward-thinking and caring school community.

About the Role

As an HLTA, you will:

  • Cover whole-class teaching during staff absence, training or PPA
  • Support children in developing emotional literacy, resilience, social communication, and academic progress
  • Be a key part of our provision for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

This is a highly rewarding role that requires flexibility, initiative, and strong interpersonal skills. You will work collaboratively with teachers and support staff and be proactive in creating inclusive and engaging learning experiences.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking someone who:

  • Is warm, caring, empathetic and enjoys working with children of all abilities
  • Has a Level 4 Teaching Assistant qualification
  • Has experience supporting children with SEND, ideally in a school setting
  • Is confident leading intervention groups and covering class teaching
  • Demonstrates excellent classroom practice and behaviour management strategies
  • Understands and champions inclusive education
  • Is a strong communicator, who works well with staff, families, and outside agencies
  • Has resilience, a positive outlook and a good sense of humour!

Experience of managing whole classes and using recognised teaching and learning strategies is essential. Experience in a mainstream primary setting is highly desirable.

In Return, We Offer:

  • A warm, welcoming and inclusive school with a strong community spirit
  • Supportive and approachable leadership and colleagues
  • Opportunities for ongoing professional development and career growth
  • A school culture that prioritises staff wellbeing and collaboration
  • The chance to make a genuine difference in children’s lives every single day

Why Join Us?

At Chapelhill Primary School, you’ll be part of a team that is passionate about providing the best possible outcomes for every child. If you are enthusiastic, adaptable, and ready to contribute to a school that truly values its staff and pupils – this could be the perfect next step in your career.
