Lincolnshire Secure Unit

About Lincolnshire Secure Unit

Lincolnshire Secure Unit (LSU) is a specialist residential and educational provision that supports young people who require a safe, structured, and nurturing environment due to complex social, emotional, and behavioural needs. The unit works to provide stability, care, and personalised education to help young people re-engage with learning, build resilience, and develop the skills needed for a more positive future.

Education is a key part of the provision, with a strong focus on tailored learning experiences that meet individual needs, promote positive wellbeing, and encourage personal growth.

About the role

We are seeking a motivated and resilient Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our dedicated education team. This is a unique and rewarding role that combines classroom support with the opportunity to lead and deliver high-quality physical education (PE) and practical-based learning.

The successful candidate will take an active role in planning and delivering engaging physical and practical sessions, helping young people develop confidence, teamwork, physical wellbeing, and essential life skills.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver PE lessons and structured physical activity programmes to small groups of learners
  • Support the delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum, with a particular focus on practical, hands-on learning
  • Plan and lead sessions that promote fitness, wellbeing, teamwork, and personal development
  • Work closely with teaching staff to adapt learning to meet the individual needs of pupils
  • Provide classroom support across a range of subjects when required
  • Build positive, professional relationships to support behaviour management and emotional regulation
  • Contribute to a safe, supportive, and structured environment that promotes engagement and achievement
  • Assist in monitoring progress and contributing to individual learning plans

What we’re looking for

  • HLTA qualification (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience working with young people, ideally those with additional needs or challenging behaviours
  • A passion for physical education, sport, and practical learning
  • Confidence in leading and managing groups independently
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people

Why join us?

  • Opportunity to make a real difference in young people’s lives
  • A supportive and experienced multidisciplinary team
  • Ongoing professional development opportunities
  • A role that combines education, sport, and mentoring
