About the Role
The Combined Authority is in the middle of an exciting period of change and growth and we are looking for an ambitious, highly committed and skilled Head of Finance with a focus on delivering an exceptional, high-quality service which enables and informs organisational decision making.

The Head of Finance will provide strong leadership for financial management and control for the Combined Authority. Providing a proactive and comprehensive financial planning, reporting and analysis service for the authority. Working with senior managers throughout the organisation to develop and maintain a robust Medium-Term Financial Strategy, which maximises funding flexibilities and best utilises new funding powers which come into effect April 2026.

About the person
To thrive in this role, you'll bring substantial experience leading professional finance services within a large and complex local government environment. You'll be a qualified accountant, with a proven track record operating at Head of Finance level (or equivalent), within the public sector.
You'll need to demonstrate your ability to manage large-scale budgets with precision, ensuring services are delivered within agreed resources while maintaining financial sustainability.
Exceptional communication and presentation skills are essential. You'll be translating complex financial data into clear, actionable insight for a wide range of stakeholders-from senior leaders to frontline teams.
We're looking for a proven leader-someone who can inspire and develop high-performing teams, build trust across the organisation, and foster a culture of collaboration and accountability. Your resilience, strategic mindset, and drive for results will be key to succeeding in this high-impact role.

- CIPFA or CCAB Qualified

Salary range
- £75,356 - £84,539 per year
