Lancaster City Council are looking to appoint an energetic and self-motivated Tractor driver / HGV driver to join the Public Realm Grounds Maintenance team within Environment and Place to contribute to making our district as well maintained as possible. The individual will need to be hard working, take pride within their work and have a passion for making improvements.

The esssential criteria for the role includes:

  • City in Guilds Award in Agriculture tractor driving and related operations especially experience in side arm flail operations or relevant experience.
  • A full current UK driving licence including HGV and category C1E with legal dispensation to pull trailers up to 3500kg is essential.
  • DBS clearance.

The role involves working as part of a wider team to provide high quality environmental maintenance services including maintaining council sports pitches / School sports fields and beaches, side arm safety sway cutting and hedge cutting on the district’s highways.

You will also be responsible for carrying out HGV Hiab work when required.

The role includes litter management, clearing of fly tipping, chewing gum removal, graffiti removal, leaf clearance, cleaning up of spillages, amenity grass cutting, hard landscaping, dyke management, washing of street furniture, playground installation, weed growth, and cultivating of the districts bedding areas.

You must possess good communication skills, have the ability to learn quickly and undertake a range of duties with minimum of supervision.

The nature of the position means that inevitably you will be required to work in all weather conditions. Personal Protective Equipment will be provided.

This is a permanent post, working 37 hours per week on a shift rota basis, to include evenings, weekends and bank holidays in line with business need, including undertaking standby duties to cover out of hours work.
