About the Role

Blaenau Gwent’s Natural Environment Team are seeking one individual with a passion for working in the Countryside to help deliver practical countryside improvements&nbsp; 

The role will involve working across the Natural Environment Team’s portfolio for the improvement of the County’s green infrastructure. This will include, amongst other duties, undertaking work on public footpath and bridleways by constructing stiles, gates and managing vegetation; undertaking work specified in management plans on local nature reserves as directed by senior colleagues; carrying out practical work to deliver landscape and environmental projects.&nbsp; 

The successful candidate will be physically fit, able to drive and understand practical countryside management skills including operation of appropriate tools such as chainsaws and brush cutters. The post will report to a Senior Ranger who will set forward work programmes according to the requirements of the Natural Environment Team.&nbsp;&nbsp; 


This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. A comprehensive

Your role will be to form part of the team of four horticulturists that care for and maintain this prestigious collection. Our friendly and dedicated Greenspaces Team is looking for an enthusiastic and qualified Arborist to join them. You will be required to support the delivery of the maintenance of tree stock within the borough of Reigate &amp; Banstead which will involve undertaking a full range of arboricultural works including pruning, felling and working at height. You will undertake a range of specialist tree management activities, such as coppicing and thinning and identify a range of tree species, to inspect, survey and recognise specific defects and associated hazards within individual trees.
You will also carry out and be responsible for the safe and correct application of pesticides, herbicides, and other chemicals, write and record site specific risk assessments and assist in the execution of all aspects of individual arboricultural operations and long-term work schedules. There will also be a requirement for you to support existing team in responding to emergency works and manage the on-site working environment when necessary.

<li>You will have strong experience of climbing and arboriculture operations.</li>
<li>You will have led an arb team/senior arborist.</li>
<li>You must have up to date appropriate First Aid training with climbing operations.</li>
<li>You will have experience of driving arboricultural associated vehicles and towing trailers/chippers.</li>
<li>Your knowledge/identification of arboricultural pests and diseases will be good and up to date.</li>
<li>You may have previous experience of working for/with Local Authorities.</li>
<li>You must have a valid driving licence with towing entitlement.</li>

Qualifications:

<li>NPTC CS 38/39, NPTC CS 40/41, NPTC CS 30/31 chainsaw and NTPC certificate in use of woodchipper – Essential.</li>
<li>NTPC certificate in use of powered pole pruner – Preferred.</li>
<li>Trained in the operation of MEWP (Mobile Elevated Work Platforms) - Preferred.</li>
