Role PurposeTower Hamlets is a culturally diverse borough in which an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Green Team Operative As a Green Team operative for the Boroughs Green Team you will take a lead role on the horticultural maintenance of Parks and Open Spaces throughout Tower Hamlets You will be responsible for a range of duties including Grass cutting flower bed maintenance and bowling green maintenance The Council is committed to improving the quality of its green spaces and the Green Team Operative will have a key role in supporting this aim.Key ResponsibilitiesThe key responsibilities for the role of Green Team operative include:<ul> <li>Carry out a range of horticultural maintenance activities, in accordance with best horticultural practices, so that designated sites are prepared and maintained to a high standard of horticulture and overall appearance</li> <li>Support the implementation of improvements to designated sites, and the associated preparation for local and national award schemes.</li> <li>Undertake basic maintenance of tools, equipment and machinery, identifying and reporting defects.</li> <li>Deal with the public in a courteous and efficient manner, answering questions relating to the parks, noting and reporting any complaints to the Operations Leader.</li> <li>Participate in the delivery of horticultural- and ecological-based community events and activities such as tree planting, bulb planting and clean-up days.</li> <li>The Council has a strong commitment to achieving equality and opportunity in both services to the community and in the employment of people, and expects all employees to understand and promote its policies in their own work, including undertaking any training where necessary.</li></ul>RequirementsKey requirements for the role of Green Team operative include Knowledge of issues relating to parks and open spaces. Are you passionate about horticulture and making a visible difference in your community? We’re looking for a Skilled Gardener to join our dedicated Parks team, helping maintain and enhance the borough’s parks, cemeteries, and landscaped areas.
As a Skilled Gardener, you will play a key role in maintaining the borough’s parks, cemeteries, and landscaped areas. You will support the Parks Area Team Leader in daily operations and take a lead role in their absence when required. You will be responsible for ensuring the safe and effective use of equipment, including vehicles, portable appliances, hand tools, and machinery. Your duties will include maintaining fine turf areas, ornamental gardens, sports pitches, and recreational spaces to a high standard. You will carry out grave digging tasks within the borough’s cemeteries and complete playground inspections, recording your findings accurately. While undertaking your duties, you will provide a professional and uniformed presence in public spaces.

The Role
Lancaster City Council are looking to appoint energetic and motivated individuals to join the Grounds Maintenance team within the Environment &amp; Place Service, to contribute to making our district as well maintained as possible. The individual will need to be hard working, take pride within their work and have a passion for making improvements.
The role involves working as part of a wider team to provide high quality environmental maintenance services including amenity grass cutting, litter management, graffiti removal, leaf clearance, hard landscaping, dyke management, street furniture, playground installation, weed growth, and cultivating of the districts bedding areas.
You will be required to have a good knowledge and also experience in amenity horticulture and have a good technical knowledge of grounds maintenance techniques and practice as duties will include mowing, strimming, hedge cutting, weeding and litter picking within the Authority’s parks, open spaces and streets. It is essential to hold a level 2, or equivalent knowledge and experience in horticulture.
The work is physically demanding, involving bending, kneeling, lifting and carrying and it is essential that you are able to lift weights of up to 20kg.
You will be able to demonstrate flexibility and commitment to delivering high quality customer service.
A full current UK driving licence is required, and it will be essential for the post holder to tow a trailer. As a result you will be required to sign up to the authorised external DVLA driving licence validation organisation that we use to manage and monitor our employees driving licence data.
This post is permanent.
The hours for this post are 37 hours per week. Your normal working week will be on a shift rota basis, working 5 days out of 7, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays, in line with business needs.
This post is based at White Lund Depot.
