The role will primarily be based at Smithies Lane Depot however this could be subject to change depending on service requirements. You will report directly to a Team Leader and will be expected to carry out allocated work in accordance with the respective job profile to a high standard of safety and quality.
You will have relevant experience in hard and soft landscaping, minor construction works and experience of working in all weather conditions. You will be experienced in using a range of vehicles, mechanical and powered tools as well as plant equipment to be able to undertake a wide range of duties, often under pressure to meet targets and deadlines while working to a high standard of quality and safety.
You must hold a valid UK driving licence.

About the Role
Do you love working in the outdoors? Then this is the job is for you. We are now recruiting for a Skilled Operative to deliver the maintenance of outdoor sports facilities across the Borough’s parks and open spaces.
This includes the full range of seasonal and year-round duties required for football, rugby, and pitches, utilising tractors and a variety of grounds maintenance machinery and attachments to ensure playing surfaces are safe, presentable, and in a good condition.
Some of the duties include:
<ul>
<li>Carry out pre-season, in-season and end-of-season works for football, cricket and rugby pitches, including grass cutting, Verti-draining, top dressing, seeding, turfing, and goal post installation/removal.</li>
<li>Mark out football and rugby pitches of varying sizes using appropriate line marking equipment.</li>
<li>Undertake renovation and repair works as required, ensuring pitches remain playable and meet safety requirements throughout the sporting seasons.</li>
<li>Maintain cricket squares and outfields, including mowing, scarifying, rolling, end-of-season renovation, and setting up wickets.</li>
<li>Operate tractors and associated attachments (e.g., aerators, slitters, scarifiers, trailers, gang mowers, and line markers) in the preparation and upkeep of sports surfaces.</li>
</ul>
About the Person 
<ul>
<li>Ability to mark out pitches accurately to required dimensions and standards.</li>
<li>Experience in sports turf maintenance, particularly in football, rugby, and cricket environments.</li>
<li>Understanding of seasonal sports turf requirements and renovation techniques.</li>
<li>Have relevant qualifications and experience in Sports Turf Maintenance, including the use of tractors and various grounds maintenance machinery.</li>

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Arboricultural Officer to join our team. In this key role, you will as part of a team deliver all aspects of the Council’s arboricultural service, ensuring our tree management operations are cost-effective, compliant with current legislation, and aligned with best practices.
You will play a vital role in surveying and managing the Council’s tree stock, liaising with contractors, supporting residents, and promoting the Council’s tree policies. Key responsibilities

<li>Deliver the Council’s arboricultural service to meet objectives, ensure value for money, and maintain compliance with legislation and best practice.</li>

About You 
Our District has a varied geography and a substantial number of protected trees. You will take a lead role in all tree related matters, including assessing trees for protection, processing applications and appeals, and providing related specialist advice and guidance to planning officers, enforcement teams, the public, and Councillors. You will also provide key input into the landscape led design at Otterpool and increase opportunities for this across the District.
You will need to have experience of assessing trees for Tree Preservation Orders, a thorough knowledge of tree shrub and hedge maintenance, and a solid understanding of relevant arboricultural legislation. The role operates with a degree of autonomy so you will also be a team player who can operate on their own initiative.
