Finance Assistant Scale 3 (with progression to Finance Officer Scale 5)

Business, Education & Care Finance | Hybrid Working

37 hours per week

This role would be suitable for someone wishing to pursue a career in Accountancy and is at the start of their studies. It is offered with a clear progression route from Scale 3 to Scale 5, subject to qualification status, experience and performance. (Please note the values are prior to pay offer for 2026/27. The pay award, if agreed, would be effective from 1 April 2026 or the employee’s start date and be in addition to the pay range above).

The Role

An excellent opportunity has arisen to join our Business, Education & Care Finance team as a Finance Assistant with a clear progression route linked to qualification status, experience and performance

You will support the delivery of financial services undertaking financial support and clerical level tasks.

  • Assisting in the preparation of financial information and advice to more senior finance staff for the efficient and effective delivery of Finance support services in line with prescribed deadlines.
  • Undertaking administrative tasks to facilitate the efficient and effective running of the service.
  • Support with the delivery of technical support and advice


You will work closely with other members of the Finance Team particularly Finance Officers and Accountants, who will manage your work programmes.

We are looking for someone who is actively studying for AAT or willing to start their studying with us. In addition, who has:

  • Three 9-4 GCSE passes Including English Language and Maths
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good communication skills-oral and written
  • A good level of numeric skills
  • The ability to achieve deadlines
  • Good ICT skills for reporting e.g. word processing and data manipulation e.g. excel, financial systems

Working Arrangements

We are well established in a hybrid model of working, combining time at home with office attendance. When in the office, the role will be based at Darby House, close to Telford Town Centre with excellent road and rail links.
