Queen’s Park Primary School has an exciting new opportunity for an innovative, driven and enthusiastic Family Support Worker. The successful candidate will support the school in multi-agency working to improve the welfare of pupils and families.
Relevant experience of working with young people and their families is essential and you will be able to demonstrate expertise and skills from your previous employment history.
Paid weeks per year: 47.15 (inclusive of holiday entitlement)
Fixed term:1 year
Start date: As soon as possible (Dependent on notice period of candidate)
About the role
School Context:
Queen’s Park Primary School is a two-form entry school in central Brighton with 310 pupils on roll. We are currently on a rapid school improvement journey where we are supporting each other to drive school improvement. As a school we believe that it is our collective responsibility to ensure that every child thrives.

What we are looking for:
A practitioner who will support the school in multi-agency working to improve the welfare of pupils and families who are facing multiple challenges.
The main responsibility areas are:
- Support the work of the school Safeguarding team through monitoring school reporting systems; liaising with social work teams; making referrals; report writing; attending safeguarding and child protection meetings as a school representative.
- Build positive working relationships with external agencies to set up and maintain effective client referral systems
- Secure appropriate support for families and negotiate effective partnership solutions with housing providers, CAHMS, Police, Youth Offending Service, Probation, Children’s social work teams and other key partners
- With the SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) and school team, coach pupils and their families on basic skills, motivation, confidence building, and self esteem
- Provide individually tailored support appropriate to each young person/ family, guiding and motivating pupils and families to achieve action plan goals
- To encourage parents to be part of the school community through events that promote parental networking and support
- Assist pupils and families with preparation for accessing education, appropriate training and support opportunities
- Seek out training and funding opportunities to enhance work with pupils and families, writing and presenting fundraising bids

General Accountabilities:
