About the role

We are looking for an organised, proactive and customer-focused Facilities Supervisor to join our Facilities team.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the day-to-day operation of our Facilities Officers team, helping deliver high-quality services across a wide range of council buildings and community facilities. You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of facilities within the Town Hall, as well as across our wider community sites throughout Crawley, ensuring buildings remain safe, well-maintained and accessible while supporting continuous improvement across the service.

The role will be based full time within the Create Building/Town Hall, acting as the central coordination point for the Facilities team and supporting operational delivery across multiple council sites within Crawley.

Based primarily in an office environment, the role combines operational coordination, team supervision, customer service and facilities administration. You will also take an active role in supporting service delivery and deputising for the Assistant Facilities Managers when required.

Key responsibilities include:

  • supervising and coordinating Facilities Officers across multiple sites
  • supporting the delivery of reactive and planned maintenance through CAFM systems
  • supporting the smooth operation of community facilities, sports sites and council buildings
  • handling customer enquiries, bookings and service requests
  • raising purchase orders, processing invoices and managing payments
  • coordinating contractors, maintenance visits and compliance checks
  • supporting health and safety inspections, fire procedures and emergency responses
  • monitoring service standards and supporting continuous improvement initiatives
  • assisting with operational planning and day-to-day problem solving

We are looking for someone who has:

  • experience supervising or coordinating a team within a facilities, operational or customer service environment
  • strong organisational and problem-solving skills
  • excellent communication and customer service abilities
  • experience using ICT systems and Microsoft Office applications
  • the ability to work effectively in a busy environment with changing priorities
  • a proactive and flexible approach with strong attention to detail
  • knowledge of health and safety requirements and facilities operations

Experience using CAFM systems and knowledge of facilities management practices would be advantageous.

You will be someone who leads by example, remains calm under pressure and is passionate about delivering excellent customer service.

Crawley is a great place to work, with a thriving business district and excellent transport connections including nearby Gatwick Airport. We are based in our modern Town Hall which opened in 2023 and is located a short walk from the town centre and railway station.

Additional information

The core working pattern for this role is Monday to Friday, based full time within the Create Building/Town Hall. However, flexibility is essential to meet the operational demands of a facilities service that operates across seven days a week with varied working hours, including occasional evenings, weekends and bank holidays where required.

A 14% shift allowance applies.

Participation in the standby service is also required, with additional standby payments applicable.

You must hold a full and current UK driving licence.

The successful candidate will be required to undertake first aid and fire warden training if not already qualified.

We offer a generous employee benefits package, with a range of discounts, benefits and wellbeing incentives to suit everyone.

At Crawley Borough Council, you will have access to a structured programme of learning from day one, designed to help you succeed in your role and grow your career.
