About the role

We are seeking a Facilities Officer to join our team on a 12-month fixed-term contract based in Crawley.

Working across council premises within the town, you will play an important role in supporting the delivery of pre-planned facilities projects and helping to ensure council buildings remain safe, secure and well maintained for staff, visitors and contractors.

This varied role will involve coordinating and supporting planned works across multiple sites, working closely with colleagues, contractors and site representatives to help deliver projects and maintenance activities efficiently and to a high standard.

Key responsibilities include:

  • supporting the delivery of pre-planned facilities and maintenance projects across council buildings
  • carrying out minor repairs, installations and maintenance tasks
  • assisting with the coordination of contractors and access to sites
  • supporting health and safety checks and compliance activities
  • planning, organising and managing your own workload effectively
  • maintaining accurate records and updating job information using computer systems and software
  • communicating professionally with colleagues, contractors and building users
  • opening and closing facilities for contractors and service providers where required

We are looking for a proactive and reliable individual who is able to work independently, manage tasks effectively and remain organised in a busy environment. Confidence in using computers and software systems is essential, along with good communication and problem-solving skills.

Experience within facilities, maintenance, project support or building services would be beneficial, although training can be provided.

The successful candidate must be able to undertake the physical requirements of the role.

Crawley is a great place to work, with a thriving business district and excellent transport connections including nearby Gatwick Airport. We are based in our modern Town Hall which opened in 2023 and is located a short walk from the town centre and railway station.

We recommend that you submit your application as soon as possible, as we may close this advert before the stated closing date if enough applications are received.

Additional information

Fixed term contract for twelve months.

The role requires you to work a flexible rota including early shifts, late shifts, and occasional weekends and bank holidays. The standard working week is an average of 37 hours. You will be required to undertake out of hours call outs as part of a rota.

Demonstrable knowledge of health and safety legislation and safe systems of work, ensuring full compliance while carrying out installation and maintenance activities.

A full and current UK driving licence is an essential requirement of the role.

You will be required to wear a uniform, which is provided.

You will be required to undertake a First Aid at Work qualification, for which a first aid allowance will be paid once you are assessed as ready.
