Hastings Borough Council is seeking a motivated and commercially aware Estates Surveyor to join our Property and Commercial Assets team.

This is an opportunity to work across a varied portfolio of commercial and operational property assets, helping to maximise value, generate income and support the delivery of services and community outcomes across the borough. Working alongside experienced property professionals, you will play a key role in delivering estate management services and supporting the Council's wider asset management objectives.

About the role

As Estates Surveyor, you will manage a diverse range of property matters and contribute to the effective management of the Council's land and property portfolio. Your work will include:

  • Managing commercial property assets and landlord and tenant matters.
  • Negotiating rent reviews, lease renewals, acquisitions, disposals and other property transactions.
  • Undertaking property inspections and valuations.
  • Supporting property and asset management projects.
  • Providing professional property advice to support decision-making.
  • Working with tenants, consultants, solicitors and other stakeholders.
  • Contributing to the Council's Asset Management Strategy and associated initiatives.

This is a varied and rewarding role that offers exposure to a wide range of estate management activities and the opportunity to develop your professional expertise within a local authority environment.

About you

We are looking for someone with experience in commercial property and estates management who can demonstrate sound technical knowledge and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

You will have:

  • A RICS-accredited Estates Management, Real Estate or Surveying degree, AssocRICS accreditation, or be working towards a recognised RICS professional qualification.
  • Experience of commercial property management and landlord and tenant matters.
  • Experience negotiating property transactions, rent reviews and lease renewals.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to analyse complex property issues and develop practical solutions.
  • Good digital skills and experience using property management systems and Microsoft Office applications.

MRICS accreditation and experience within local government or the wider public sector would be advantageous but are not essential.

Why join Hastings Borough Council?

We offer flexible and hybrid working arrangements, generous annual leave, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, and support for ongoing professional development.

Whether you are already an established Estates Surveyor or looking to build on your existing experience and progress towards further professional qualifications, this role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your career while making a positive impact on the future of Hastings.
