Environmental Health Officer (Private Sector Housing) - £39,862 – £42,839

Are you a qualified Environmental Health professional ready to make a tangible, positive impact on housing standards in the private rented sector? Join Wyre Council and take the lead in enforcing vital housing legislation across our beautiful coastal and rural borough.

This is more than just an enforcement role; it’s an opportunity to use your expertise to resolve housing disrepair complaints, drive up standards in rented accommodation, ensure amenity and fire safety standards are met in Houses of multiple occupation, and directly improving the quality of life for tenants.

You will inspect private sector properties, identify hazards under the Housing Act, lead on complex enforcement cases (including legal action where required), and work closely with landlords, tenants, and partner organisations to achieve compliance. The role also includes identifying unlicensed HMOs, issuing civil penalties or prosecutions, preparing professional reports, and supporting junior officers through supervision and mentoring. Essential requirements:
  • A Diploma or Degree in Environmental Health.
  • EHORB Registered.
  • A committed attitude to improving housing standards and protecting tenants.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear, concise reports and use your initiative to work effectively without constant supervision.
  • A full UK Driving Licence and ownership of an acceptable means of mobility throughout the Borough.

The council offers annual leave starting at 24 days and rising to 29 days subject to length of service, great work life balance with flexible, hybrid working arrangements, employer pension contribution, free onsite parking, discounted gym membership, access to occupational health and wellbeing services, training and development opportunities and a supportive workplace culture that allows you to develop and grow.

You will be required to undertake an Enhanced DBS check.
