The opportunity
Are you a qualified and experienced Environmental Health Officer / Food Safety Officer looking for a role where your expertise can make a real difference?
Our Environmental Health Service plays a vital role in protecting public health, supporting local businesses and ensuring our communities remain safe and healthy.
You’ll join a knowledgeable and supportive team where your professional judgement is valued, your contribution is recognised, and you’ll have the opportunity to manage a varied caseload and make a visible impact across the district.
Hours: Flexible Part Time Hours (Full time will also be considered)
Contract: Permanent
Salary: £39,152 to £42,839 pro rata

What you'll be doing
As part of our Food and Health & Safety Team, you will undertake a wide range of Environmental Health functions, including:
- Carrying out food hygiene inspections and food safety interventions
- Undertaking health and safety enforcement activities
- Investigating complaints and infectious disease cases
- Providing advice and guidance to businesses
- Supporting safety advisory groups and advising on event safety
- Managing and developing Primary Authority relationships
- Carrying out sampling, projects and other regulatory work
You’ll take responsibility for your own workload and have the opportunity to use your knowledge and experience to improve standards across the district.
What we’re looking for
You’ll be a motivated and enthusiastic professional with:
- A CIEH / EHRB-recognised qualification in Environmental Health (BSc, MSc, Diploma or equivalent)
- A minimum of two years post-qualification experience
- Registration with the EHRB (or eligibility)
- Strong knowledge and experience of food safety and health & safety enforcement
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to provide clear advice and produce high-quality reports
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- A flexible approach, including the ability to work outside normal hours when required
