We’re looking for an enthusiastic Environmental Health Officer to join our Food & Safety Team, helping to protect communities and support local businesses across Swale, Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells.

This is a dynamic, varied role where you’ll combine regulation, advice and partnership working to drive high standards in food safety and workplace health.

What you’ll be doing

  • Carrying out inspections and investigations across a wide range of businesses.
  • Supporting businesses with clear, practical advice to achieve compliance.
  • Taking enforcement action where needed, including preparing cases and attending court.
  • Investigating complaints and public health risks, including infectious disease cases.
  • Leading on specialist areas and contributing to service improvement projects.

What you’ll bring

  • A degree or diploma in Environmental Health (or equivalent).
  • Experience in food safety and health & safety enforcement.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence working with a range of people.
  • Excellent organisation and the ability to manage your own workload.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset and commitment to public health.
  • Full UK Driving License and access to a car.

What we offer:

  • Financial: An attractive basic salary within a clear pay structure. A starting salary of £44,357 increasing to £45,525 after one years service and increasing further to £46,692 upon completion of two years in post (subject to managerial approval).
  • Holiday Entitlement: 26 days annual leave (increasing to 29 days after 5 years continuous Local Government service) plus three additional days in December and bank holidays.

  • Free staff parking and an essential car user allowance of £1000 per annum (pro-rated for part time staff)
  • Pensions: Membership of the Local Government (CARE – Career Average (Revalued Earnings) Pension Scheme – Employer contribution of 19.7%.
