
Environmental Health Officer (Business Compliance)
We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Environmental Health Officer to join our Business Compliance team, delivering regulatory services across Food Safety and Health & Safety. If you are a qualified Environmental Health Officer with a passion for protecting public health and experience in food safety and health and safety enforcement, we would welcome your application.
The successful applicant will undertake a varied workload of food hygiene and health and safety interventions including programmed work and investigations into complaints, accidents, incidents and outbreaks of notifiable disease, and business advisory work. The post holder will play a key role in protecting public health and supporting local businesses to achieve compliance with relevant legislation.
This role requires an officer who is competent to undertake official food controls and who can exercise professional judgement, provide practical advice, and take proportionate enforcement action when required. We take pride in providing the highest standards of customer service and the successful applicant will need to have the full range of communication and organisational skills to manage what will be a diverse and demanding workload.
The successful applicant will also:
• Hold the Environmental Health Degree recognised by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) that enables practice as an Environmental Health Officer.
• Be registered with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) or eligible for registration.
• Be competent and authorised, or capable of being authorised, under the Food Law Code of Practice (England) to undertake food hygiene interventions and official food controls.
• Have experience of delivering food safety and health and safety regulatory functions within a local authority setting.
• Possess a sound understanding of food safety legislation, health and safety legislation, and associated enforcement processes.
• Demonstrate excellent communication, negotiation, and report-writing skills.
• Be able to manage a diverse workload, prioritise effectively, and work both independently and collaboratively.
• Hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle for business use (or otherwise be able to meet the travel requirements of the role).
