We now have a part time job opening that gives you the chance to join our Environmental Health team as an Environmental Health Officer in the Food Team. Food Safety is an important and highly regarded area within the Environmental Health Service at Canterbury City Council.

About this Environmental Health Officers job in Canterbury:

  • You’ll join our Environmental Health team’s Hybrid working, spending your time working from home, the office, and getting out around the district to carry out food hygiene inspections.
  • You will carry out routine inspections of food businesses to promote and enforce compliance with food safety, health and safety at work and public health legislation and guidance
  • You will investigate complaints about food safety and food poisoning, investigating outbreaks and working closely with UKHSA
  • Following inspections, you will write up inspection reports and answer correspondence
  • You will attend inter agency working groups relevant to the team.
  • Working with the Environmental Health Manager and Lead Food Officer, other council departments and external bodies, you’ll work to deliver departmental and corporate targets to implement our corporate plan and achieve the council’s aims.

Environmental Health Officer’s working pattern:

  • Part time 22.5 hours per week
  • We offer flexible, hybrid working arrangements.
  • You’ll benefit from a full week off over the Christmas period, bank holidays off, PLUS 23 days annual leave (pro rata) to use throughout the rest of the year.

About you, the ideal Environmental Health Officer for the job:

Your qualifications

  • A recognised professional qualification in Environmental Health.
  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent.
  • Be EHORB registered

Your experience

  • You should have prior working experience in a local authority regulatory environment carrying out food hygiene inspections, complaint work, and investigating outbreaks of infectious disease
  • Your experience will demonstrate good communication and IT skills, which will ideally include at least one year working in Food Safety and independently carrying out food hygiene inspections
  • You will need to have your own transport or equivalent way of getting around the district

Due to the nature of this role, the successful applicant will be required to undertake an Basic DBS check as part of their pre-employment clearances.
