Southwark Council is looking for an experienced and motivated Project Manager to lead a high-profile programme of highways capital projects. This is a key role with responsibility for taking projects from inception through to completion, ensuring strong project governance, excellent design quality and meaningful engagement with our communities.
You will lead a multidisciplinary team and work closely with residents, councillors, contractors and partners to deliver schemes that support Southwark’s ambitions for safe, inclusive and well-designed streets.

What You'll Be Doing
To manage the funding, development, and delivery of a range of highways capital projects within the borough. The projects will be managed from inception through community engagement and outline design phases, and to assist in the management of larger projects
As Engineering Project Manager, you will manage a programme of highways capital projects from early feasibility through to delivery and post-implementation review.
You will oversee the initial phases of projects, including feasibility work, option appraisal, consultation, outline design and approval processes. You will also manage funding applications, control project budgets, monitor contractor and consultant performance, and ensure projects are delivered to the required quality, cost and time standards.
This role requires strong project leadership, financial control and stakeholder management. You will work with a high degree of independence, preparing reports, briefings, committee papers, project documentation and tender information for a range of audiences including senior managers and elected members.
You will play an important role in helping Southwark deliver safe, effective and well-managed highways and transport improvements that support wider council priorities and community needs.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone with strong capital project management experience, technical credibility and the ability to deliver in a complex public sector setting.
- Proven experience in managing the full lifecycle of a transport / highway improvement projects and programmes:
- Proven experience in programme planning, risk management, change control, business cases, and reporting
- Proven experience of delivering complex capital projects, on time, within budget and to the required quality standard.
- Experience in stakeholder management, consultation & political awareness
- Budgeting, Cost Control & Financial Governance
- Public‑Sector Procurement & Contract Management e.g. NEC

This post is Full Time, 36 hours a week.
