Engineering Maintenance Team Leader

Grade 6 £30,024 - £32,061

Are you an experienced engineering or maintenance professional who enjoys leading by example, working hands-on, and delivering high-quality services for local communities?

Wyre Council is looking for an Engineering Maintenance Team Leader to support the delivery of both responsive and planned works across the Council’s engineering infrastructure. This is a practical, varied role where no two days are the same, combining supervision, technical work and on-site problem solving.

Working closely with the Engineering Works Supervisor and Transport and Maintenance Team Manager, you’ll help ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard across the borough.

About the role

In this role, you will:

  • Support the supervision of internal teams and external contractors delivering planned and reactive engineering and maintenance works.
  • Carry out a wide range of skilled trade and civil engineering tasks, leading by example on site.
  • Coordinate resources, materials and plant to help ensure works are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Operate allocated plant and equipment and a variety of tools safely and responsibly.
  • Maintain accurate records including timesheets, worksheets, health and safety monitoring and inspections.
  • Promote safe working practices, carrying out dynamic risk assessments and ensuring compliance with policies.
  • Liaise effectively with colleagues, customers and supervisors to deliver a coordinated, customer-focused service.

What we’re looking for

You will be someone who:

  • Has experience in civil engineering, groundworks or trade-based repair and maintenance work.
  • Can work independently, organise your workload and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Has a good working awareness of health and safety requirements.
  • Holds a full driving licence, including LGV Category C.
  • Is physically capable of undertaking manual work and working outdoors.
  • Demonstrates behaviours aligned to Wyre Council values.

What’s in it for you

  • Generous annual leave allowance. A minimum of 24 days (pro rata) in addition to all bank holidays, rising to 26 days after four years and 29 days after five years local government service.
  • Future development – face to face and virtual courses in line with your developmental goals.
  • Employee wellbeing support.
  • A local government pension scheme, with generous employer contribution.
  • The opportunity to work for the local community and make a difference.
