About the Post:
In Barnsley we want all children, young people and families to benefit from the opportunities that a great childhood brings. The Great Childhoods Ambition is the council’s commitment to improving the lives and futures of our children and young people. As part of The Great Childhoods Ambition the Library Service will be delivering a project to ensure all children and young people have a library membership card by the time they start school and understand the services and activities available and the positive impact libraries and reading can have on individual lives.
We are looking for a positive and enthusiastic candidate to join our team as an Engagement Officer. You will work with colleagues across the Library Service, Council and our schools to deliver the Universal Membership project and work with schools and families to encourage visits to libraries and increased take-up of library services by young people. You will actively market and promote libraries as community destinations, acting as an advocate and championing their role in supporting children and young people.
This is a Career Grade post, and the successful candidate will hold a minimum Level 4 qualification in a relevant area with experience of engagement activity with members of the public and community groups, developing successful partnerships in a community setting and evidence of delivering successful outreach, promotion and development activities.
We are looking for creative and enthusiastic candidates able to motivate children, young people, schools and families to engage with libraries.
The successful candidates will need to be able to manage a challenging workload, using their own initiative and adapting to changing circumstances. You must be a team player with strong communication skills and the ability to work with a wide range of partners. You should also be able to develop clear systems of work and be adept at learning new computerised processes.
If you can bring your jazz hands combined with practical organisation skills, then you’ll fit into our team.
