Erewash Borough Council is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic and community‑focused Empty Homes Officer to help bring vacant homes back into use and improve the quality of housing across the borough.

As the council’s Empty Homes Officer you will play the leading role in identifying, investigating, monitoring and reducing the number of empty homes within Erewash, focusing on those that have been empty the longest. Working closely with property owners, landlords, partner agencies and internal teams, you will support and encourage the return of empty properties to occupation and, through this work, increase the supply of homes and improve neighbourhoods. Activities can include developing action plans, negotiating voluntary agreements with owners and preparing cases for enforcement action.

You will need:

  • HND or equivalent in a relevant subject (e.g. Environmental Health, Building Studies, Planning, Housing, Construction) equivalent professional certification or significant relevant experience
  • Detailed knowledge of legislation and guidance relevant to all aspects of empty homes
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing including expressing technical terms in plain English
  • Ability to evidence excellent interpersonal skills, including negotiation
  • Experience of managing workloads effectively, including prioritising well
  • Good ICT skills, including experience of using data management systems

You will need to travel within the local area for which you will receive a casual car user allowance.
