About the role

We are looking for an experienced and proactive Employee Relations Consultant to join our team during an exciting period of transformation. This is a backfill role, created to support the team while we balance our day-to-day responsibilities with the implementation of a new HR and Payroll system, including employee self-service functionality.

As part of this dynamic team, you will play a key role in shaping our future ways of working. Your experience, knowledge and ability to influence will help drive the council's continued success.

The role requires you to:

  • support and coach managers in understanding and applying employee relations policies and practices
  • lead on a wide range of employee relations casework
  • ensure compliance with employment legislation and internal policies
  • build strong, collaborative relationships with stakeholders across the organisation

You should be:

  • CIPD qualified level 5 (or equivalent), with a strong grasp of UK employment law
  • experienced in delivering high-quality HR services in a fast-paced environment
  • a strategic thinker with excellent organisational skills
  • a confident communicator with a collaborative style and the ability to influence and negotiate effectively

This role offers an opportunity to make a real impact while supporting a team that are driving meaningful change. If you are able to hit the ground running and help shape the future of HR at the council, we look forward to receiving your application.

Crawley is a great place to work, with a thriving business district and excellent transport connections including nearby Gatwick Airport. We are based in our modern Town Hall which opened in 2023 and is located a short walk from the town centre and railway station.

Additional information

This role is a fixed term contract for 6 months.

This is a hybrid role requiring an onsite presence of up to three days per week. Your contractual base will be the Town Hall; however, you will need to travel between various sites to meet business needs. This may include occasional attendance at our Metcalf Way Depot, Tilgate Park, and other smaller satellite locations.

Employee benefits

We offer a generous employee benefits package, with a range of discounts, benefits and wellbeing incentives to suit everyone.

Our way of working

Our shared values and behaviours reflect the special nature of our council. We encourage all colleagues to put them into practice, whatever job they do. Take a look to see if we are the perfect match.

Safer recruitment

Crawley Borough Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We want to be an inclusive and diverse employer of first choice reflecting the community we serve and particularly welcome applications from all under represented groups.

How to apply

As the project is already underway and the post is fixed term, we will be encouraging expressions of interest to be submitted for this role as soon as possible. We are keen to engage with candidates who possess the skills and experience required for the role without delay.

Expressions of interest should be no more than one side of A4 outlining how you meet the essential criteria of the post and should be submitted to HR@crawley.gov.uk.

If your expression of interest meets the essential criteria of the post, we will be in contact to arrange an initial conversation to discuss your application and next steps.

For an informal conversation or further information regarding the role, email HR@crawley.gov.uk.
