Castle Point Borough Council is seeking a proactive and adaptable Emergency Planning & Business Continuity Officer to help strengthen our resilience and safeguard the wellbeing of our residents. This is more than a job, it’s a chance to lead, collaborate, and make a meaningful difference.

What You’ll Be Doing

As part of our dynamic team, you’ll:

  • Develop and maintain emergency and continuity plans aligned with the Civil Contingencies Act 2004
  • Work across departments to identify critical functions and ensure operational resilience
  • Support the delivery of engaging training and exercises to prepare staff and partners for real-world emergencies
  • Contribute to risk assessments and mitigation strategies to protect our community
  • Keep policies current and compliant with legislation and best practice
  • Build strong relationships with external partners, voluntary agencies, and supply chains
  • Participate in debriefs and embed lessons learned into future planning
  • Stay up to date with guidance from professional bodies like the Business Continuity Institute (BCI)
  • Support the management of emergency planning resources and equipment

What You Might Already Bring

We welcome candidates with experience in:

  • Emergency Planning or Business Continuity
  • Project or Operations Management
  • Health & Safety or Risk Assessment
  • Training Delivery or Stakeholder Engagement
  • Crisis Communication or Incident Response

If you’ve worked in high-pressure environments, led cross-functional teams, or developed plans and procedures, your experience is highly relevant.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • A solid understanding of emergency management principles and the Civil Contingencies Act
  • Experience working with external agencies and delivering training
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritise critical workloads
  • A flexible, values-driven approach to work

Qualifications

A relevant qualification in Emergency Planning, Business Continuity, or a related field is idea, but equivalent experience will absolutely be considered.
