As an Electoral Services Visiting Officer, you will work directly with residents across North Northamptonshire to ensure as many people as possible are registered to vote.

You could be:

  • Out in the community, visiting households and speaking with residents
  • Supporting people to understand and complete electoral registration forms
  • Helping to promote registration and voting at outreach events
  • Working closely with colleagues as part of our one council approach

Interviews anticipated to be held in week commencing Monday 18 May 2026.

What will you be doing?

We will support you to manage your own workload, so everyday could be different.

You will be:

  • Visiting properties at various times of the day to collect electoral registration details
  • Offering clear, friendly guidance to residents on registering to vote
  • Supporting outreach events with community groups, charities, schools, faith organizations, and others
  • Encouraging registration in under‑registered groups, including young people and private renters
  • Promoting registration in care homes, HMOs, and other multi‑occupancy settings
  • Accurately updating records using our electoral systems and mobile canvassing technology
  • Supporting elections, referendums, and the annual canvass when required
  • Assisting the Engagement Officer in creating communication content
  • Interacting with Service Users and assisting with hosting accessibility events
  • Supporting direct colleagues through collaboration and attending team meetings

About you

What We Are Looking For

Previous electoral experience is desirable but not essential – we will support and develop you through provision of full training so that you can succeed in your role.

You will ideally:

  • be confident communicating with people from all walks of life
  • be comfortable using technology, including tablets and databases
  • have a flexible approach to work, working additional hours during peak periods
  • have a willingness to learn, tackle new challenges, and support colleagues
  • demonstrate awareness/understanding of equal opportunities and other people’s behaviour, physical, social and welfare needs
  • hold a full driving license with access to your own vehicle

Most importantly, you will share in our values of customer service, respect, and efficiency.

You must be professional, approachable, and politically impartial at all times.
