The Electoral Services Team plays a vital role in supporting local democracy across Coventry. We are responsible for maintaining the Register of Electors, administering elections and ensuring that eligible residents are able to register and vote. The Annual Canvass is one of our most important activities and helps ensure electoral records remain accurate and up to date. As a Canvasser, you'll be joining a friendly and experienced team committed to providing an excellent service to residents and helping people participate in the democratic process.
What is the job role?The Electoral Services Team is recruiting casual Electoral Registration Canvassers to help deliver Coventry's Annual Electoral Canvass.
This is a great opportunity to earn some additional income while helping ensure that local residents are correctly registered to vote and able to participate in future elections.
What will I be doing?
Working as part of a small team, you will visit households across Coventry that have not responded to electoral registration communications and encourage residents to provide the required information. The role involves:
- Ringing properties within an allocated area
- Visiting properties within an allocated area
- Speaking with residents on the phone and face-to-face
- Assisting residents to complete electoral registration information
- Using a council-issued tablet to record information
- Reporting changes to addresses and housing developments
- Helping maintain an accurate and up-to-date electoral register
Canvassers play an important role in supporting local democracy and ensuring residents can have their say at elections. The purpose of the role is to help create an accurate electoral register and assist residents with voter registration.
All candidates must have the Right to Work in the UK. We are currently not offering sponsorship for this role.
Who are we looking for?We're seeking colleagues who:
- Have excellent communication and customer service skills
- Are confident speaking with members of the public
- Can work independently and as part of a team
- Are comfortable using a tablet and basic IT systems
- Can follow procedures and meet deadlines
- Are able to walk around their allocated area and visit properties throughout the canvass period
The role requires good communication skills, customer service experience, the ability to work independently and confidence using tablet-based technology. Previous experience working with the public is desirable.
