Barnsley Council is launching a targeted intervention project aimed at reducing the number of families Elective Home Education (EHE) who feel they have no other alternative educational pathway. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Project Lead to drive this ambitious initiative forward.
About the Role
As Project Lead, you will provide strategic oversight and operational leadership for a dedicated team, including of Education Welfare Officers. You will work closely with key partners such as:
- School and Academies
- Youth Justice Service (YJS)
- Targeted Early Help
- Children’s Social Care
- The Virtual School
- Contextual Safeguarding Team
Your role will be pivotal in aligning the project with Every Child In School Everyday plan, identifying families that with support could remain in or return to school based education.
You will also:
- Coordinate caseloads and ensure effective delivery of support
- Analyse data from the dynamic EHE register to inform decision-making
- Facilitate multi-agency training and promote shared learning
- Deliver key messages and updates to Cabinet through quarterly reports
- Ensure strong links with the Pathways to Work programme and targeted careers advisors.
- Embed the project within wider reforms and pathways to prevent future worklessness
About You
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has a strong background in education welfare, social care, or a related field
- Demonstrates excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills
- Is confident working across agencies and influencing strategic direction
- Understands the complexities of EHE and the importance of early intervention
- Can manage performance, monitor impact, and drive continuous improvement

Salary range
- £39,152 - £41,771 per year
