Are you highly organised, diplomatic, a great communicator and looking for a role where no two days are the same?

Tunbridge Wells Borough Council is seeking a Democratic Services Officer to join our friendly Governance and Democratic Services team at the heart of local decision-making.

You'll support Council meetings, committees and elected members, helping to ensure decisions are made transparently, lawfully and effectively.

This is a varied and rewarding role where you'll:

  • Organise and support Council, Cabinet and committee meetings.
  • Prepare agendas, coordinate reports and publish decisions.
  • Attend meetings and produce accurate minutes.
  • Support hybrid meetings using digital and webcast technology.
  • Provide guidance to councillors and officers on governance procedures.

We're looking for someone with excellent organisational and communication skills, strong attention to detail, diplomacy, resilience and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities. Experience supporting committees, boards or formal meetings is desirable but not essential.

In return, you'll enjoy a supportive team environment, professional development opportunities, Local Government Pension Scheme membership, generous leave entitlement, free parking and the opportunity to work from home up to two days per week after probation.

What we offer

  • Salary of £31,612, rising to £32,444 after 1 year and £33,276 after 2 years
  • 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with 1 to 2 evening meetings per week
  • Up to 2 days per week working from home after probation
  • 22 days’ annual leave, rising to 27 days after 5 years’ local government service, plus bank holidays and 3 additional days in December
  • Membership of the Local Government Career Average (CARE) Pension Scheme, with a generous employer contribution of 19.7%
  • Free staff parking
  • HAPI benefits platform: Access to an all‑in‑one benefits hub, offering employee perks, wellbeing support, discounts, and everyday savings
  • Personal development: A range of training opportunities to support your continuing professional development
  • Employee Assistance Programme (EAP): In partnership with Health Assured, providing confidential support to help balance work and personal life
