Are you organised, detail-oriented, and confident dealing with sensitive financial matters? We are looking for a Debt Recovery Officer to join our dedicated team at Hertsmere Borough Council.

In this key role, you will provide administrative, technical, and legal support for debt recovery proceedings and enforcement remedies in accordance with current legislation. You will also play an active part in direct negotiations with debtors, enforcement agents, and other relevant bodies, while identifying and processing irrecoverable debts.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with debt recovery proceedings through a variety of legal and enforcement methods
  • Supporting forfeiture proceedings for commercial leases in arrears
  • Attending County Court hearings relating to debt recovery, lease forfeiture, and opposing tenant relief applications
  • Liaising with external agencies and enforcement bodies
  • Managing case documentation and supporting legal processes throughout
  • Offering other general support to the Legal Services Team

What we are looking for:

A proactive, methodical individual with strong communication and negotiation skills and a sound understanding of debt recovery procedures.

The post holder will require a discreet and empathetic approach to deal with sensitive issues professionally. Experience in legal or enforcement environments is desirable but not essential.
