About the team
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Data and Intelligence Analyst to join our Community Protection Data Team. You will contribute to high-quality data solutions that support strategic decision-making across Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS), working with a high degree of autonomy and confidence.
You’ll be part of a dynamic and collaborative team that plays a critical role in supporting the Community Protection Directorate. The team provides performance reporting, data analysis, and strategic insights that inform planning and operational decisions. You’ll work closely with internal stakeholders and external partners, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
About the role
The following key responsibilities outline the scope and expectations of the role:
- Design, develop, and refine SQL queries, ETL processes, and data warehouse solutions to support business intelligence needs
- Lead the implementation of source/version control systems and ensure proper documentation across all BI processes
- Develop and support Power BI dashboards and reports, collaborating with the GIS Analyst on spatial data analysis
- Provide technical mentorship to colleagues on enterprise analytics tools (Azure SQL Server, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics)
- Work with Digital Services (ICT) to modernise legacy reporting systems and implement scalable BI solutions
- Propose innovative approaches to continuously improve data infrastructure and reporting capabilities
About you
We’re looking for someone with a strong data analytical background and a passion for data. You’ll be confident working independently and collaboratively, with excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach.
Essential:
Ideally educated to bachelor degree level and/ or holds a relevant professional qualification, although consideration will be given to those applicants without these qualifications, but who can demonstrate they have worked at a similar level.
Proven experience with the Microsoft BI Stack, including:
- Transact SQL
- SQL Server (Azure or on-premise)
- Power BI (including DAX)
- SharePoint
Experience in data warehouse development and administration.
Proficiency in developing ETL/ELT processes using tools such as SSIS, PowerShell, SQL Agent, or equivalent cloud-based tools.
Experience with Microsoft DevOps or similar environments, including source/version control.
Full, clean, and current UK driving licence.
Desirable: - Experience with Microsoft Synapse Analytics, Azure, and Fabric. - Familiarity with GIS tools such as ESRI or QGIS. - Experience in agile project management. - Understanding of
