This role is to join a busy customer service team at Lancaster City Council, being the first point of contact for our residents over the phone, face to face and via our digital channels. The Customer Services Team has a presence at both Lancaster and Morecambe Town Hall for residents to visit and we provide advice and support on a whole range of council services.

Our contact centre deals with calls ranging from calls from Council Housing tenants, Waste and Recycling. Grants support, Benefits, People who are homeless or are at risk of becoming homeless and Elections, as well as the Council’s switchboard.

Due to the nature of this role, you need to have excellent interpersonal skills with both internal staff, and members of the public. You need to be able to maintain a professional attitude at all times whilst providing clear information regarding the support we can provide.

As the first point of contact to our residents you need to be an ambassador for the council ensuring that our values are demonstrated during each interaction.

We are looking to recruit:

  • Two permanent full-time posts, 37 hours per week Monday to Friday, and
  • One temporary full-time post (until 30 September 2026), 37 hours per week Monday to Friday.

The posts will be based at both Morecambe and Lancaster Town Halls with the option to work from home when business needs allow. There may be occasional requirement to work evenings and weekends.
