About you
You are someone who brings a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to delivering excellent customer service. You have some experience in establishing facts and solving problems, and you're confident in providing advice and handling enquiries from members of the public both face to face and over the phone, always in a polite and professional manner.
You are able to quickly learn and apply new procedures, and you're comfortable using Microsoft Word, Excel, and other Windows-based applications. You have accurate keyboard skills and are capable of carrying out general administrative tasks such as photocopying, scanning, filing, printing, and producing clear, concise meeting notes.
With strong numeracy skills, you're confident in carrying out basic calculations (adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing), and you can work both independently and as part of a team. Your spoken and written English is of a high standard, enabling you to communicate effectively in a range of situations.
You understand the importance of equality and are aware of how discrimination can affect service delivery and the people you support. You're either already qualified in English and Maths at GCSE level or are willing to work towards these qualifications as part of your apprenticeship.
You are reliable, flexible, and able to adapt your working hours to meet service demands, such as during busy periods at the end of the day. You have lived in the UK for the past three years and are able to travel across the Borough when required.
Most importantly, you are committed to undertaking the relevant apprenticeship training and developing your skills to contribute positively to the Community Choices team at Luton Council.
To be eligible, applicants must have resided in the EEA, Switzerland, Gibraltar or the UK for at least the previous 3 years before the start of the apprenticeship.
Application process
Because of the nature of this job, it will be necessary for the appropriate level of criminal record disclosure to be undertaken. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore applicants are required to declare all unspent cautions and convictions; and also any adult cautions (simple or conditional), and spent convictions that are not protected as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2020). A person’s criminal record will not in itself prevent a person from being appointed to this post. Applicants will not be refused posts because of offences which are not relevant to, and do not place them at or make them a risk in, the role for which they are applying. However in the event of the employment being taken up, any failure to disclose such offence, as detailed above, will result in dismissal or disciplinary action by the Authority.
On occasions, we may close a vacancy early due to a very high number of applications being received.
