Are you passionate about conserving natural landscapes, enhancing biodiversity, and creating exceptional visitor experiences? Brentwood Borough Council is looking for an experienced Country Park and Woodland Manager to lead the management and future development of our country parks, woodlands, and wider countryside estate.

About the Role
As our Country Park and Woodland Manager, you will:
- Oversee the day today management of Brentwood’s country parks, woodlands, and arboricultural services.
- Develop and deliver strategic management plans to enhance biodiversity, conservation value, landscape quality, and visitor experience.
- Manage and support the Arboricultural Officer’s and wider team, ensuring excellent service delivery for internal and external customers.
- Lead the development and implementation of income generation opportunities across the countryside estate.
- Work collaboratively with community groups, volunteers, partner organisations, residents, and councillors.
- Ensure robust health & safety, safeguarding, compliance, and site management processes.
- Conduct site inspections, produce digital reports, cost work programmes, and manage associated budgets.
- Provide a visible and approachable presence across parks and woodlands and to provide positive engagement with users and stakeholders.
- Develop and promote community programmes including environmental education, conservation volunteering, and nature-based activities.
This role plays a central part in helping deliver the Council’s conservation, climate, and biodiversity priorities.
We’re seeking someone who brings:
- Significant experience managing woodlands, country parks or similar environmental sites
- Strong knowledge of arboriculture, conservation, and land management
- Confidence engaging with contractors, volunteers, community groups, and partner organisations
- Experience preparing budgets, monitoring expenditure, and delivering projects to financial targets
- Ability to write and implement management plans
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft and bespoke tree/countryside management systems
- Excellent communication, diplomacy, and organisational skills
Essential qualifications include:
- Degree in Conservation Biology, Countryside Management or equivalent
- Lantra VTI (or equivalent)
- Full driving licence and access to own vehicle
- Lantra PTI – or willingness to work towards
- QTRA – or willingness to work towards
- IOSH Managing Safely – or willingness to work towards
Desirable:
- RFS Diploma in Arboriculture or equivalent
