Seasonal Grounds Maintenance Operative
About the Role:
An exciting and challenging opportunity has been created to join a Grounds Maintenance team who maintain Highway verges within Wirral. We are looking for 8 Grounds Maintenance Operative’s to help provide an excellent service for local people.
The Team implements the Wirral Parks Standard which will involve working with staff, Friends Groups, service users and external organisations and will join the Grounds Maintenance team, based at Cleveland Street Depot, which is responsible for the maintenance of all Highway verges &amp; some open spaces within Parks &amp; Countryside.
The Grounds Maintenance team work to provide a comprehensive grounds maintenance service to these areas. Maintenance operations include mowing and vegetation control, maintenance, and management of shrub stock, and in addition undertake cleansing operations.
About the Candidate:
We are looking for someone who has worked within a Grounds Maintenance team and experience of assisting and implementing a grass cutting schedule, working with plans and carry out other Amenity work when required.
You will have the following essential Knowledge &amp; Skills:
Health &amp; Safety awareness.
Full/Provisional Driving Licence.
As well as being able to carry out a full range of maintenance duties it will be desirable if you were skilled in at least one of the following:
Compact Ride-On Mowing Machines.
Experience in use of industrial horticultural machinery, strimmer, backpack blower, and hedge cutter.
Possession of the following Desirable Criteria will be advantageous. Towing of trailers NVQ 2 in Amenity Horticulture
Temporary Contract and hours as follow:
31 weeks @ 42 hrs to commence 30th March 2026 until 30th October 2026.
Monday to Thursday 07.00am -16.30pm. (9 hours per day).
Friday - 7.00am =13.00pm (6 hours per day).

What is the job role? We are seeking a self motivated individual who will work as part of a team to assist in the day to day administrative duties to support the Parks and Open Spaces section which includes Cemeteries, Allotments, Countryside, Trees both Urban, Housing and TPO’s.

The successful candidiate will be qualified to NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Business Adminisration along with IT skills in the use of Microsoft Office packages sufficient to input and retrieve data.

In addition, the sucessful appliacant must be able to demonstrate experience of working in an office environment and possess excellent customer care skills. You will have an excellent telephone manner when dealing with enquires from members of the public and Elected Members, along with excellent communication, analytical and written skills to enable you to deal with enquires efficiently.

The ability to work on your own initiative and in an organised manner, along with a flexible approach to working hours are all key requirements for this role.

Based at Dinton Pastures Country Park, working across Wokingham Borough Council’s 35+ countryside, parks and public open space sites.

As our Countryside Ranger (Recreation), you’ll play a key role in delivering the day-to-day management of the facilities and infrastructure that support recreation across the borough’s countryside estate. From play areas and paths to car parks and site furniture, your work will help ensure every site feels well maintained, safe and ready for the thousands of people who enjoy our green spaces each year
About the Role
This is a hands-on, operational role focused on supporting the safe, effective and welcoming management of the borough’s countryside sites. Working under the direction of the Countryside Officer (Operations), you will help deliver the infrastructure and facilities that enable high-quality recreation across a diverse and expanding portfolio of sites.
You will oversee day-to-day maintenance and site operations, support and supervise Duty Rangers, and work alongside staff and volunteers to ensure tasks are delivered consistently and efficiently across multiple locations. The role combines practical, on-site problem solving with coordination of planned maintenance, asset monitoring and contractor-led works.
Working closely with colleagues, you will help ensure that play areas, paths, car parks, public facilities and visitor information are well maintained and presented to a high standard. You will also contribute to the ongoing development of recreation services by supporting events and commercial activity, and by feeding into longer-term planning for infrastructure, accessibility and visitor experience.
This role suits someone who enjoys balancing practical outdoor work with organisation and coordination, and who is comfortable taking ownership of day-to-day delivery while working within a clear management structure in a public-facing countryside setting.

Excellent interpersonal skills are essential allowing you to deal with customers in a caring, friendly and professional manner.&nbsp; Ideally you will have an enthusiasm for fitness, a passion for results and the drive to help people change their lives.
The role is to conduct health checks, inductions, run synrgy classes and prescribe safe and effective programmes for member and users.&nbsp; To provide a presence on the gym floor and be available at all times to assist customers with their exercise programmes and ensure that they are using the equipment correctly. The positions will also involve membership sales and retention, actively promoting and encouraging customers and visitors to join as full paying members.&nbsp; Member interaction and retention initiatives are key indicators within our business, and you will need to demonstrate skills in these areas.&nbsp; The ideal candidates will have the ability to teach small group classes.
Qualifications 
This position requires a Level 2 Gym Instructor Certificate, with the desire to work toward Level 3 and a current first aid at work certificate would be desirable.&nbsp;
